Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 81.8 trains/day in the week ended November 29, down 5.5 trains/day from the previous week, Surface Transportation Board data showed Friday. From the year-ago week loadings were down 23 trains/day, making it the steepest year-on-year drop since the last week of March. Since S&P Global Platts data first began in 2014, this was the first year in which total loadings averaged less than 100 trains/day in week 48. While loadings from the Powder River Basin and the Illinois Basin increased week on week, loadings in Northern and Central Appalachia, along with other basins, saw steep declines.
