Met coal prices move up on firm demand

Prices for seaborne coking coal rose slightly Monday on demand for April-delivered cargoes. S&P Global Platts assessed Premium Low Vol coal up $1/mt day on day at $213.25/mt FOB Australia, while the CFR China marker was down 50 cents at $216.75/mt Monday. In China, a trade was done at $216.50/mt CFR China, for 85,000 mt of Australian Premium Low-Vol Saraji with a laycan of March 1-10. However, as the date range was out of Platts’ 7-45 days assessment laycan, the traded level was not reflected in the assessment Monday. A major China-based steel mill issued a buy tender seeking 85,000 mt of Premium Low Vol Saraji or Peak Downs coal with April laycan, on a fixed price CFR China basis.
