Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 89.7 trains/day in the week ended February 8, up 1 train/day from the prior week, Surface Transportation Board data showed Thursday. From the year-ago week average trains per day dropped 11.6 trains/ day, the largest year on year drop since 2016. The drop in loadings largely came from the Powder River Basin, which has dropped year on year for the past six weeks.
