US coal carrier departures up 18.5% on week, largely from Gulf Coast: cFlow

US coal carriers departing from US ports increased to 77 in the week ended April 13, up 18.5% from the previous week, data from cFlow, Platts’ trade flow software, showed. However, departures were down 11.5% from the year-ago week. After a steep decrease in departures during February and March given flooding and other weather-related issues, delays appear to be declining, allowing for more departures. Only seven coal carriers were waiting outside the Port of South Louisiana, down from 15 at the same port last week.
