NYMEX december gas strengthens on rising heating demand

The front-month natural gas futures contract was trading nearly 3 cents higher than Thursday’s settlement, as winter heating demand for gas ramps up to keep the Midwest and Northeast warm. As of 12:30 EST (1730 GMT), the December gas contract was trading up 2.70 cents at $2.799/MMBtu. The contract has moved in a range of $2.755-$2.822/MMBtu so far in this trading session. S&P Global Platts Analytics projected that US domestic demand for gas would average 92.2 Bcf/d for the next seven days. Higher residential and commercial demand for gas was expected to drive the increase, with residential/commercial demand set to average 38.4 Bcf/d for the next week.
