Consol Energy has begun developing a new low-vol metallurgical coal mining operation in Wyoming County, West Virginia with an anticipated completion date of 2021. The Itmann mine is expected to produce over 600,000 st/year of high-quality, low-vol coking coal at its full rate over an anticipated mine life of more than 25 years. The cash costs of the coal sold from the mine are expected to be between $65/st and $75/st once steady-state production is achieved, the company said in a Wednesday announcement.
