Weekly US coal production was estimated to be 12.4 million st in the week ended March 16, down 5.7% from the prior week and down 17% from the year-ago week, Energy Information Administration data showed Thursday. This was the lowest weekly estimated production in the eleventh week of the year since S&P Global Platts began tracking the data in 2011, followed closely by 2016 production of almost 12.5 million st in the corresponding week.
