Asia met coal prices soften as offers slip, bearish sentiment reigns

Offers in the FOB market were down on the last trading day but saw little buying interest Monday. An offer was lowered $2/mt from last Friday for the likes of Premium Mid Vol Goonyella, and down $4/mt for the likes of Semi Premium blend Peak Downs North. Both offers were for 75,000 mt cargo with mid-February laycans. “With prices falling, we do not expect much trading activity,” a trader said, as buyers adopted a cautious stance. Platts Premium Low Vol FOB underwent an 8% correction last week, and major downside risk may be limited, a buyer noted.
