Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 85.5 loadings/day in the week ended December 13, down 1.2 trains/day from the previous week, Surface Transportation Board data showed Thursday. From the year-ago week, loadings were down 11.8 trains/day. The five-year average for week 50 was 110.2 trains/day, leaving the most recent week down 24.7 trains/day. Across all basins, percentage declines year-on-year were at double-digits, with Illinois Basin loadings leading the way, down 46.8%, and Central Appalachian loadings following, down 21.7%. IB loadings averaged 4.5 trains/day, down 2.2 trains/day from the prior week and down 4 trains/day from the year-ago week.
