Mitsubishi Chemical acquires stake CPC Srl

Mitsubishi Chemical said today that it has taken a 44% stake in CPC Srl (Modena, Italy), a producer of auto components made of carbon fiber–reinforced plastic (CFRP). The acquisition, made via Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (Dusseldorf, Germany), is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen the carbon fiber business in the United States and European markets. CFRP is being increasingly used in the global automobile market to make lighter car bodies. Mitsubishi Chemical says it will study additional investments in CPC.
