Covestro to continue MDI production at Tarragona, plant closure suspended

Covestro (Leverkusen, Germany) will continue manufac- turing methylene-di-para-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) at Tarragona, Spain reversing a previous decision to close the site, the company announced on Thursday. Covestro announced in June last year that it would close the Tarragona plant at the end of 2017. However, the company has decided to continue MDI pro- duction at Tarragona due to the signifcant increase in demand, Covestro adds. In addition, Covestro has also managed to get access to important raw materials, notably chlorine, for the Tarragona site beyond 2017, the company adds. “The decision is a clear statement that we remain com- mitted to the MDI market.
