Platform to sell Arysta to UPL, relist as Element Solutions

Platform Specialty Products announced today that it will sell its Arysta LifeScience agchems business to United Phosphorous Ltd. (UPL; Mumbai) for $4.2 billion. The deal marks the completion of Platform’s process, announced in August 2017, of separating its agchems and performance solutions businesses. It is expected to close in late 2018 or early 2019. UPL was rumored to be in discussions with Platform about Arysta last month. Platform said in June that it was in discussions with an unnamed buyer about Arysta. The business generated sales of about $1.9 billion in 2017, roughly half of Platform’s total.
