Basic chemical shares rose 0.7%, diversifed shares were up 1.2% and specialty stocks remained fat for the week. Ag shares rose 0.9%, while gases stocks fell 0.5%. Ashland reported the biggest gain for the week at 10.7%, while IFF posted the largest loss for the week at 11.0%. Ashland last week reported year-over-year (YOY) increases in income and sales, and earnings easily beat analyst estimates. IFF, meanwhile, reported on 7 May that its frst-quarter earnings fell short of estimates. The company also recently announced an agreement to acquire rival Frutarom for $7.1 billion.
