Evonik Industries reports that adjusted net income surged by 34% to ?333 million ($397 million) in the frst quarter of 2018, compared with ?248 million in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted EBIT was ?480 million, an increase of 24% year over year (YOY). Adjusted EBITDA rose by 14% YOY to ?679 million. EBITDA beat analysts' consensus estimate by 3%. Sales increased marginally, to ?3.68 billion, versus ?3.64 billion in the frst quarter of 2017, or up 1% YOY. Sales volume was slightly higher and selling prices also increased, Evonik says. Currency efects, especially the weaker dollar, had a counter-efect, according to the company. Evonik’s resource-efciency segment reported an adjusted EBITDA of ?325 million, an increase of 9% YOY. Sales rose by 3% to ?1.4 billion in the frst quarter, supported by consolidation of the silica business acquired from J. M. Huber last year and higher sell- ing prices. There was strong demand for coating additives, espe- cially in APAC, and for crosslinkers in Europe, according to Evonik.
