Henkel profit, sales fall

Henkel reports an adjusted operating proft (EBIT) of ?842 million ($1 billion) in the frst quarter of 2018, a decline of 1.4% compared with frst quarter 2017. Foreign currencies had a negative efect of 6.2%, Henkel says. Adjusted return on sales (EBIT) rose by 0.5 percentage points to 17.4%. Sales in the frst three months of this year reached ?4.84 billion. Organic sales, which exclude the impact of currency efects and portfolio changes, rose by 1.1%. Negative currency efects had an impact of 8.6% on sales, and portfolio changes contributed 3%. Nominally, sales were down by 4.5% year over year (YOY). Henkel says that it expects the volatile and uncertain market environment to continue. The signifcant currency fuctuations will remain, and the company continues to expect the US dollar to weaken against the euro compared with full year 2017. In addition, Henkel says that it expects prices for raw materials and packaging to continue to rise compared with the previous year. The company confrmed its latest outlook from March Henkel expects to generate organic sales growth of 2-4% in the fscal year 2018. The adhesive technologies and laundry a home care businesses will deliver growth within this range, with beauty care to grow by 0-2%. Henkel anticipates an increase adjusted return on sales to more than 17.5% with all three business units contributing.
