As the European Union's Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation reaches its last registration deadline, regulatory authorities and industry associa- tions confrm that the implementation of REACH is well under way but far from completed. Today marks the end of the third and final registration phase for chemicals. Manufacturers and import- ers must, by the end of today, submit to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA; Helsinki, Finland)—for each substance produced or imported in a volume band of 1–100 metric tons/year—a dossier on the manufacture, use, and safety of that chemical. Companies that do not submit dossiers by today can no longer manufacture or import these substances legally in the European Union.
