Clariant reports higher sales

Clariant on Wednesday reported a 7% rise in first-quarter EBITDA before exceptional items to 268 million Swiss francs ($272.9 million) compared with the year-earlier quarter, citing upswings in catalysis and care chemicals as well as strong performance in plastics and coatings. The result is in line with consensus forecasts. EBITDA margin before exceptional items was 15.6%, mirroring the previous year’s level. The company does not report net profits in its first-and third-quarter results. First-quarter sales were 7% higher year on year (YOY) at SFr1.722 billion. All business areas contributed to the sales growth, with particular strength in catalysis and care chemicals.
