Asahi Kasei to invest $67 million to increase capacity for LIB separators

Asahi Kasei announced that it will build an additional production line for the company’s Celgard and Hipore-brand lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery (LIB) separator at its manufacturing complex at North Carolina, United States; and Shiga, Japan. Asahi Kasei says it supplies both wet-process and dry-process separators with its Hipore and Celgard-brand products. Asahi Kasei will increase the production capacity by 150 million m2/year for its dry-process separators under the Celgard brand at the North Carolina site; it is scheduled to start up in the second half of fiscal 2018. The company will also build an additional Hipore production line for wet-process separators at Shiga; the planned 90 million m2/year line is expected to commence operations in the first half of fiscal 2020, Asahi Kasei says.
