N. America chemical rail down 2.3% YOY

During the week ended 11 January, chemical railcar trafc in North America decreased 2.3% year over year (YOY) as declines in Canada and Mexico ofset a gain in the US. Volume totaled 46,177 carloads, up 7.3% from the previous week, according to data released on 15 January by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). On a four-week basis, volume declined 3.7% YOY while increasing 4.2% from the 2018 period (chart). For the year to date, chemical railcar trafc in North America is down 1.0%.
