IHS Markit forecasts global recession, slow recovery for China

IHS Markit is now forecasting a global economic recession, in the latest revision to global GDP growth forecasts, as the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continue to take hold. While global GDP is expected to grow by 0.9% year-on-year (YOY) in 2020, a recession is expected to take hold in the second and third quarters. The recovery is expected to be “very slow,” says Nariman Behravesh, chief economist at IHS Markit.
