Asahi Glass chemical business achieves lower operating-income on higher production, energy cost

Asahi Glass Co. (AGC) has announced that its net profit for the fiscal first quarter ended 31 March decreased 37% to ￥15.69 billion ($141 million) from the year-ago period. Sales declined 2.9% year on year (YOY) to ￥361.6 billion, led by a decline in selling price of caustic soda. Operating income was ￥20.9 billion, down by 31.9% YOY, mainly due to an increase in manufacturing cost for chemicals.
