Total says it is running a 240,000-metric tons/year steam cracker at reduced rates at its Feyzin refnery and petrochemical complex near Lyon in eastern France due to strike action by unions.Various unspecifed units at the company’s 109,000-b/d refnery are shutting down, according to local media reports. “As a result of the strike, refning unit shutdowns are underway and the steam cracker is operating at a reduced rate,” Total confrms in a statement to CW. The CGT union called for strike action yesterday at the refnery in response to the potential mothballing of a visbreaker unit due to lower product demand for heavy fuel oil. Total says there would be no job losses, and that the industrial action was called by the union before the next scheduled meeting on 18 October to discuss the plans and provide more detail on the project.
