MGail India (New Delhi) says it will revive an existing LPG plant in Usar District at Raigad, Maharashtra State, India, and convert it into a polypropylene (PP) complex. The facility will produce 500,000 metric tons/year of PP. The estimated investment in the PP complex is 88 billion Indian rupees ($1.2 billion), according to Gail. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2023-24, it adds. Gail says it would be the frst project of its type in India, using propane dehydrogenation (PDH) technology to produce propylene for conversion to PP. BASF and the Adani Group (Ahmedabad, India) are studying a PDH unit at Mundra, Gujarat State, but this plant would feed an acrylics complex. Gail’s project would be fnanced by a combination of internal funds and external debt facilities.
