Budgetary allocation to biotech sector up to US500 mn

With the government recognising biotech as a key sector, the Union budgetary allocation for it has been rapidly increasing and has, in fact, trebled since 1987. According to Mr. Alok Gupta, Associate Director and Head, Life Science & Biotech, Rabo Bank, budgetary allocation for biotech has trebled from US150 mn in 1987-88 to US300 mn in 1997-98 and US500 mn in fiscal 2002-03.
