Reliance commissions off-gases cracker at Jamnagar; boosts competitiveness of petrochemical production

Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), India's largest petrochemical producer, has just announced that it has commissioned its new cracker at Jamnagar-the site where two world-scale refineries are co-located-marking a significant development in the project that has come to be known by the acronym J3. The cracker is based on refinery off-gases (ROG)-hitherto used as a fuel in the refineries-and represents a low-priced feedstock that will allow for a competitive cost position for the manufacture of the two most important olefins-ethylene and propylene-and derivatives thereof, including polymers and chemicals.
