The Delhi High Court has quashed the Government's decision to ban private firms from making and selling oxytocin in the country.The government is expected to appeal the decision at the Supreme Court.Oxytocin is used in preventing excessive bleeding during childbirth,but the Health Ministry had called for a ban on the private production of the drug to prevent its misuse in cattle and poultry,besides its abuse in young girls.The 100-page judgment called the Government's decision”unreasonable”and”arbitrary".
