Check Mate: Mating disruption helps a Pennsylvania grower get a handle on internal fruit feeders

THE astounding success of an area-wide mating disruption project now under way in the heart of Pennsylvania's apple country is giving Eastern fruit growers hope that they may finally be able to get a handle on two internal fruit feeders that have plagued their orchards for the last decade. Just two years into the three-year program, being conducted on roughly 1,350 acres of mostly apple and peach orchards in Adams County, PA, there already has been a dramatic reduction in the amount of fruit injury by codling moth (CM) and Oriental fruit moth (OEM) larvae in these orchards.
