The policy to set up Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Regions (PCPIRs) in the country was adopted by the government in 2007 with the aim of developing global scale industrial corridors. Aimed at achieving synergies of value-added manufacturing, research and development, the PCPIRs were expected to reap the benefits of co-siting, networking and greater efficiency using common infrastructure and support services.
