Nippon Shokubai inaugurates acrylic acid, SAP units in Belgium

Nippon Shokubai(Osaka, Japan) has held an inauguration ceremony at Antwerp, Belgium, for new plants producing superabsorbent polymers(SAPs) and acrylic acid by its Nippon Shokubai Europe subsidiary. The total investment was €350 million($403 million) and included the construction of a 100,000-metric tons/year acrylic acid plant and an expansion by 100,000 metric tons/year of the SAP unit, giving a total SAP capacity at the site of 160,000 metric tons/year.
