BASF plans major expansion of Antwerp EO,derivatives complex

BASF will invest over €500 million($548.6 million)for a 400,000-metric tons/year expansion of the company's ethylene oxide(EO)and derivatives complex at Antwerp,Belgium.The expansion entails a second EO line,including capacity for purified EO,BASF says.Additional investments in several EO derivative plants will form part of the project”and will be pursued in line with the ethylene oxide expansion,”BASF adds.The derivatives include non-ionic surfactants,glycol ethers for automotive applications,and various other alkoxylates.The sequential start-up of the facilities is expected to begin in 2022,the company says.
