The world's largest chemical company as of 31 December 2018 split into three smaller companies this year. While it is hardly news,as DowDuPont splits into Dow,DuPont, and Corteva in the first half of this year,it is an unusual situation.Dow,on its own, would have placed fifth in CW's ranking for 2018,while both DuPont and Corteva would have placed in the top 20.M&A transactions continue to reshape the industry's leaderboard beyond DowDuPont.Nutrien, the combination of PotashCorp and Agrium, cracked the top 15 companies by sales last year, the company's first full year of operations.Linde swallowed Praxair late in the year and sold off a number of businesses, resulting in a lower ranking that looks likely to be temporary.Bayer shot back up into the industry's top 20 after completing the acquisition of Monsanto, although, like Linde and Praxair, results for the combined entity were only reported for part of the year.
