Billions of farm animals live in overcrowded and often poorly ventilated conditions on industrial farms - prime environments for disease to develop and spread. Is it any surprise when disease outbreaks occur? The quest for ever more meat, milk and eggs can result in devastating effects to both animal and human health. This was witnessed earlier this year, when an outbreak of avian flu resulted in a mass cull of millions of chickens in Asia in a desperate attempt to prevent the spread of the disease.
