IT was a dozen years ago that Jack Pheasant stepped down as president of what was then called the International Dwarf Fruit Tree Association. But only a few years before that, virtually no one was yet planting on dwarfing rootstocks in and around Pheasant's home of Wenatchee, WA. How times have changed. "We were still planting on seedlings until 1990, but now seedlings are gone, and it's assumed growers understand that," says Pheasant. "It's been a total revolution in orchard and production systems."
