In this issue of Blood, Camargo et al have identified 2 distinct functional subsets of cytomegalovirus (CMV) phosphoprotein 65 antigen peptide-specific, polyfunctional CD81 T-cells that independently predict risk for clinically significant CMV DNAemia following allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT).(1)
