Califomia dried plum growers experienced marketing success in the Unit-States when the name of their product changed from prunes to dried plums in 2000. However, an oversupply of product and then two years of extremely small crops have caused industryproblems. The United States supplies 70 percent of the world's dried plums, and 99 percent of the U.S. dried plum production According to data from the U.S., Department of Agriculture (USDA), Washington, D.C., American production is followed distantly by crops from France, Chile and Argentina.
