Just Peachy: California peach growers will sell fruit as part of a cobbler dessert kit, the first of many such products

TWO California peach grower/packer/shippers plan to come out with a new peach cobbler kit this summer. The kit allows consumers to pick up an easy-to-make fresh fruit dessert in the produce aisle. The peach cobbler kits include about 1M pounds of peaches and 7 ounces of peach cobbler mix in a clamshell container. All the consumer must do, says Michael Reimer of Brandt Farms, is cut up the fruit, combine the cobbler mix with half a stick of melted butter, spread it over the cut fruit in a baking dish, and pop it in the oven for 30 minutes. "It makes a fantastic cobbler, a wholesome dessert, and you get that fresh-baked smell in the house," he says.
