Over the past few years we have been experiencing what may have been a major shifting in the tectonic plates that are the foundation of the electronics assembly world. There were some abrupt shocks and upheavals. Manufacturing activity and jobs shifted first one way and then another. Contract manufacturing offered lifeboats and promised safety. Companies sought to reduce their costs and protect their profits in far away places. Everyone grabbed onto whatever appeared to be anchored down and hung on.
