Effect of legumes on productivity of Galega orientalis.

G. orientalis is characterised by low yield of green mass in the first year of cultivation. This disadvantage of the crop can be compensated for by cultivating G. orientalis in mixtures with crops with high productivity in the first year of cultivation. Cultivation of G. orientalis in pure stand and in two-component mixtures with lucerne, clover, melilot [Melilotus sp.] and sainfoin [Onobrychis viciifolia] was studied in Bashkortostan, Russia. Plots were set up on leached chernozem. Data on dry weight yield, plant height and number of days from planting to the first harvesting are tabulated. The best dry weight yields were achieved using mixtures with lucerne (13.2 and 60.2 t/ha in 1998 and 1999) and sainfoin (16.1 and 64.4 t/ha in 1998 and 1999, respectively).
