Data on heavy metal contents (zinc, copper, cadmium, lead, mercury and arsenic) in soil and hay of fodder crops in foothill areas of Krasnodar region, Russia are presented. The concentration of the mobile form of cadmium exceeded maximum permissible concentration on 23-47.5% of cultivated land and 30.0-44.1% of pastures and hayfields. Mobile lead contents exceeded the maximum permissible concentration in small areas of only one district of the 5 studied. The rest of the heavy metals did not exceed maximum permissible concentrations. All the crops studied (oats, peas, cereals, naturally growing grasses and fodder crops), had heavy metal contents within permitted limits.
