Laryngeal tube suction disposable: a stylet-assisted insertion technique.

The laryngeal tube suction disposable (LTS-D; VBM Medizintechnik GmbH, Sulz a.N., Germany) is a supraglottic airway device that is used for routine general anaesthesia as well as for the management of the unexpected difficult airway [1]. A standard insertion technique [2], and a frontal jaw lift insertion technique [3] have been described. Both of these techniques combine a 180? rotation, similar to the insertion of an oral airway. The use of sufficient lubricant and the creation of an adequate retropharyngeal space by implementation of an effective Esmarch manoeuvre (jaw thrust), to lift the tongue from the posterior pharyngeal wall, are crucial for a safe and successful placement. This manoeuvre may be impaired by limited mouth opening, reduced neck mobility, a rigid cervical collar or cervical spine injury [3, 4].
