In the past 40 years, aluminium consumption in the Indian auto sector has almost trebled to 23% of the metal's use from 8% in 1970 - 71. Experts predict that aluminium consumption by the automotive industry will soon pass electrical sector consumption, which currently has a 36% market share. Automotive production in April to May 2010 increased by 33.52% to 2 715 189 vehicles. The domestic passenger vehicles segment in April - May grew 34.49% compared to the same period last year. Passenger cars grew by 34.75%, utility vehicles increased by 30.40% and multi purpose vehicles rose by 39.15%.
