We are pleased to share highlights from the 9th Biennial Congress of the Anaerobe Society of the Americas which was held in Long Beach, California, June 24-27, 2008. A major emphasis of this meeting was Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). CDI is the leading cause of hospital-acquired infections in most developed countries and new information on this anaerobic infection challenges old paradigms and has led to new insights into the epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of CDI.
