UK secondary aluminium producer, Norton Aluminium based near Birmingham, UK, has installed the latest generation of tilt rotary furnace from Otto Junker (UK) Ltd. Norton Aluminium was founded in 1952 and is one of UK's leading manufacturers of high grade aluminium foundry alloys, manufacturing the entire range of foundry alloys and specialising in the producing alloys with tight elemental ranges, low levels of impurities and best in class metal cleanliness. Initially the tilt rotary furnace was introduced in dross processing applications, replacing fixed axis rotaries which require over 50 percent more salt flux additions. The tilt furnace thus provides huge cost savings and less salt to dispose of. Whilst dross processing remains a key area for tilt rotary technology, the past five years have seen the increasing use of these furnaces for melting general scrap, previously the preserve of reverberatory melting.
