The Revisions of Ventilation Standards in Both United States and Europe

Since problems of sick buildings or sick houses seriously caused at advanced countries in 1980's, ventilation standard drafts of ASHRAE and CEN have been revised frequently to get acceptable indoor air quality in minimum ventilation rate. As their concepts are leading other countries, it will be useful to know their contents. In both standards draft, ventilation rate is determined by new procedure that calculates the sum of people component and building component. ASHRAE has proposed unique intermittent ventilation methods. A new standard draft for low residential dwellings is now also revised, but that has two key issues related to mechanical ventilation system and unvented combustion device. CEN CR1752 has 3 categories in every kinds of buildings and grades, to provide a very wide range in their ventilation rate.
