The global environmental issues related to power supply and the current development status of fuel cell power generation

Fuel cell power generation is a highly effective.environment-friendly energy system and is an important R&Dproject in studying the measures to control CO_2 emissions.MCFC (Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell) and SOFC (Solid OxideFuel Cell), capable of operating at a high temperature and can becombined with gas turbines, are large generating systems. whichhave high efficiency and are expected to be commercialized aselectric utility business in the future.At present, MCFC 1,000 kW class pilot plant is beingdeveloped and the fundamental research on SOFC 10 kW classbasic system is being carried out.This paper reports on the global environmental issues relatedto power supply and th current development status of fuel cellpower generation, as well as the problems to be solved in the future.
