The 4th International Symposium on Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Related Disorders in the Middle East was held October 26-28, 2007 in Athens, Greece. It attracted participants from the United States, Europe, Algeria and many countries in the Middle East, including Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Qatar and Jordan. The Symposium was convened by Robert Friedland (Louisville, KY, USA), assisted by Changiz Geula (Chicago, IL, USA), and organised by a local committee directed by Spiros Efthymiopoulos (Athens, Greece). The 2-day program featured 35 platform presentations organised in six sessions dealing with the molecular basis of dementia and genetics, diagnosis and clinical features, behavioral and psychiatric issues, treatment and caregiving and public policy. A poster session was held with additional presentations. This report highlights some of the presentations from each session as well as the opening keynote lecture.
