High and super high water-repellent coatings were prepared by silicone-acrylic block copolymer, and the durability of their water-repellency and ice- and snow-resistance were studied. The coated films showed micromorphology. This super high water-repellency of coated film was remarkably dropped after the soaking test at 40°C for 24 hours. According to the observation and analysis of fine water droplets dewed on the coated surface by the means of scanning electron microscopy, it was found that this degradation of super high water-repellency is closely related to the presence of minute defects on the surface of coated film and is probably related to the discontinuity of silicone layer on the surface of coated film. In order to improve the durability of super high water-repellency, fluorocarbon particles and silica particles having much less minute defects on surface were added to the coatings formulation together with silicone oil for much better continuity of surface of coated film. The coated film showed much higher durability of super high water-repellency. Ice- and snow-resistance of these coatings were studied. High water-repellent film showed low ice adhesion and slid snow at an early stage and super high water-repellent film demonstrated excellent snow resistance.
