Movable toepan performance test & impact tests on dummy lower extremities

Injuries of lower extremities in automobile accidents have been given much attention for several years. It is presumed that the intrusion or deformation - particularly that of the toepan-into the front portion of the passenger compartment has asignificant effect. In this regard, as an experiment, a test apparatus to reconstruct the intrusion of the toepan on the HYGE sled was produced. The performance of the test apparatus and the response characteristics using two types of dummy feet werecarried out. The performance of the test apparatus appears to be satisfactory to a certain extent compared with the vehicle impact tests. Differences in measured values of lower extremities due to the differences between the two types of dummy feet, withor without toepan/floorpan motion, have also been determined to a certain extent.
