World copper surplus slims to 118,000T in 1st qtr: WBMS

The global copper market surplus narrowed by nearly 13 percent in the first quarter to 118,000 tonnes from about 135,000 tonnes in the same period last year, according to data from the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS). But the full-year 2010 surplus was just 43,000 tonnes. Refined copper production increased nearly 2 percent year on year to about 4.76 million tonnes, although copper demand rose at a great rate of 3.4 percent to some 4.64 million tonnes in the same comparison.
