BP Alaska spill cause under investigation

Alaskan environmental regulators have launched an investigation into the cause of a methanol spill at a BP Plc facility on Alaska's North Slope as the London-based energy company works to formalize cleanup and rehabilitation plans. The weekend spill occurred when an 8-inch pipeline raptured during a pressure test to check newly installed valves at BP's Lisburne production facility, a BP spokeswoman told AMM in an e-mail. She was unable to say whether the ruptured pipe was welded or seamless and/or coated, or the age and source of the failed pipe.
